Yeah, at that point you've basically won the game and it's just a matter of mopping up. There's an outstanding feature request to make the AI surrender once it's clear that it can't win. I might get to that soon.

Enjoy the rest of the demo! Smiley

It doesn't worry me, it's just tedious.  Even if I control every planet, I can't efficiently deal with that last fleet bouncing around, since it can hit me wherever it wants.

And yes, I upgrade more-or-less once a turn.  The AI likes to swoop past my other planets and claim the production centers, but that's a problem I can deal with. Tongue

You should be creating your own giant fleets. Generally, you leave a lot of your planets undefended - or with minimal defences - in order to get a few gigantic fleets that can just crush your opposition - having more ships means you take less losses. If leaving your planets undefended worries you, you could try having medium-sized fleets scattered around near each other so they can reform into a gigantic fleet if necessary.

Also, are you remembering to upgrade your planets? It's a significant production boost.

I just downloaded the demo of this game, and it's very interesting.  Unfortunately, now that I've reached High intelligence, the AI likes to create a single giant fleet and rampage through my planets.  Since they can hit me just about anywhere, I'm often left floundering around reclaiming planets until my opponent is careless enough to defend for two or three turns, or my production manages to outstrip the fleet to the point where they can't take any of my 7-8 planets.  Any advice for cutting these fleets off once the AI has nothing to lose?

But then, I suppose that's why the full version has space-time rifts. Wink

In case anyone noticed the series of short outages we've been having - we had a few more incidents of the server getting hacked and hijacked by nefarious malware, as the server was behind on its security updates (mea culpa!). Probably unrelated to the earlier DDoS, just random botnet activity. The first outbreak actually managed to suck over 200GB in bandwidth before I noticed. Yikes. Not quite sure what it was doing, but my main theories are participating in an outbound DDoS (retrospective karma, anyone?) or trying to break into more boxes.

ato has kindly rebuilt the server from scratch, copied over all the data from the old one, and instituted some new security measures to prevent a recurrence. Everything seems to be working and we'll be keeping our eyes peeled... actually, eww. Let me rephrase that: We'll be keeping our eyes open for breakages and more infestations, and do let me know if you spot anything broken and I'll jump on it ASAP.

Some of the backups we used to rebuild the server were slightly out of date, but I don't think we lost much. Except that eztrezet will have to re-register on the forums. Sorry eztrezet! Nothing personal! Embarrassed

On September 3 I unlocked the Maestro of Multiplayer Mayhem achievement, finally completing all the achievements. I posted a blog announcing that fact, linking to Giant Bomb's page for that achievement.

Then on September 7, Jeff Gerstmann posted the list of most popular achievement pages on Giant Bomb for the week of August 29 - September 4. Take a look at the first list. Does anything seem unusual about it? Wink

Yes, that's Mayhem Intergalactic in the tenth position. It seems the blog I wrote on September 3 drove enough people to Mayhem Intergalactic's achievement pages to put it on the top 10 list for a week, even though the blog was only there for less than two days. I'm a powerful blogger, apparently.

Now, I'd be interested in seeing whether its presence on the week's top 10 list will be enough to generate some additional interest in the game, and maybe cause an increase in sales, or at least get the game's current owners to play it a bit more.

Hi LordAndrew, nice to see you around here. Thanks for being Mayhem Intergalactic's de-facto Giant Bomb ambassador! Wink

Congrats again on getting that last achievement. One of these days we might even be able to ramp up the multiplayer community a bit. Smiley

Hey there! It's LordAndrew. You may recognize me from Giant Bomb. I'm the only person there who ever talks about this game.  Sad

I'm a 22 year old Canadian guy, currently on break from college. I've found myself with a fair amount of free time, so I've been playing Mayhem Intergalactic a fair bit lately. Mostly because I wanted my monocled alien.  Grin I finally got that last achievement a couple days ago, but I don't actually think I'm ready to stop just yet. I recently played a few rounds of multiplayer against another human player, which I enjoyed. I thought I would never be able to do that, so it was certainly a pleasant surprise.  Smiley

I'll keep playing every so often, and hopefully I'll be able to play some more games against other players. I might also experiment with creating custom maps, and see if I can create something that doesn't totally suck.  Cheesy
